Young talents with a power meter: Elisa Götzinger of the Union Radrennteam Pielachtal

Young talents in cycling might be the future stage winners at the Giro Rosa, the women’s Giro d’Italia, winners of the Thüringen Rundfahrt or medal winners at World Championships and Olympics. Or maybe they are the next generation of those who just enjoy cycling. Today we want to introduce you to Elisa Götzinger from Union Raddrennteam Pielachtal, who, like the rest of the female Austrian team, trains and races with our NGeco power meters.

age: 20, second year U23 category

cycling: racing for 3 years now

specialisation: flat races and time trials

palmares: Styrian TT champion (U23), 3rd at Austrian TT Championships (U23)

Goals: finishing her studies, maybe becomming a professional cyclist

3 questions for Elisa about her power meter

Why is training with a power meter important to you?

I have a very high heart rate and used to ride in the endurance training zone at more than 160 beats per minute. Today I only very rarely look at my heart rate during a workout and use watts for my orientation . They are much more meaningful to me because they do not depend on my daily condition.

Which qualities does a good power meter need?

I do not want to have to worry about it. Usability and reliability are the most important qualities to me. If the power meter is on the bike then it has to work and I do not want to have to adjust it or check the battery before every workout.

How does your power meter help you with training and racing?

During a workout I look at my training zones, so I can stick to my training plan. During a race, the power meter serves only as an orientation and I usually only look at it towards the end of a race. However, my power meter is also a great motivator for me. Whenever I see  an improvement after a test and I can pedal harder over a certain period of time, I get a motivational boost. The power meter makes my progress visible!
